the mag circulates in nigeria alone for now and like d website,it offers information of encumberances on property in nigeria and warning people to stay off those properties that are been litigated on, i.e lis pendis or that may be subject of equitable mortage etc.the idea is to chase property fraudsters out of business and we shall appreciate any assistance that will make d site and mag more popular so that nigerians in diaspora who want to buy properties in nigeria or any such investors will be properly guided.i am a lawyer practicing in nigeria, africa.
Yes you would need to advertise in international real estate magazines. But then people would notice and check out your website.
Local and State and Federal tax plus lawn care and maintanance must be taking its toll. The cold weather makes it harder to take care of abandon property in particular since the pipes can break if left unchecked.
They are sitting on them until the market really improve. See what happened to Silverado S&L back in the 1990’s. In the late 90’s, the assets were sold for a huge profit.

Petition:
We feel that REALTOR.com has not been responsive to the needs of REALTORS and that the current relationship between NAR and Move,Inc. (as currently constituted) is not in our interest as REALTORS for the following reasons:
1) Move, Inc. has a long standing pattern of raising fees on REALTORS and charging them exhorbitant fees in comparison with the costs of developing a national real estate listings site. Fees (which yet again are expected to be raised in 2009) are out of line with what other national listing aggregator websites cost their shareholders. Why should we be paying many multiples of what companies like Trulia and Zillow are costing THEIR shareholders for aggregating real estate listings on their sites?
2)After being provided ALL of our listings and photos, they have stripped off all but four, unless REALTORS pay them an annual “enhancement” fee. This effectively takes our clients and holds them hostage until we pay their “fee”. Much of this fee goes right back into “Sales expenses” which are Move,Inc.’s marketing to REALTORS that they MUST have their service. This adds HUGE costs to what is needed for a national website and is NOT acceptable.
3) In a world where many websites offer REALTORS social networking opportunities to connect REALTORS to potential clients, REALTOR.com has been sorely lacking in developing these types of programs.
4) The 2007 10K (released Feb 28, 2008) from Move, Inc. shows STAGGERING General and Administrative Expenses of over Million and Sales expenses of over 8 Million..these expenses are RIDICULOUS given their online properties and a development expense of Million. While we realize that this includes Top Producer and other assets of Move, Inc., that actually makes the ratio of development / Sales, General and Administrative Expense even MORE out of line. We are tired of having NAR tell US to pay for THEIR inefficiency.
We are not against paying for what WE receive. If you want to charge us for “enhancing OUR contact information” then fine. But don’t hold our CLIENTS and CUSTOMERS hostage. That is unconscionable. Many of them don’t know what you are doing to us and if they did, they would find it incredibly offensive.
More importantly, because the National Association of Realtors leased the rights to our web presence to third parties, they put themselves in the position of defending REALTOR.com’s inefficiencies and deficiencies to the general membership for their own financial gain.
We call on NAR to take steps to BUY BACK Realtor.com from Move, Inc. or to buy a controlling interest in Move, Inc. to provide a national listings site for REALTORS at a price that is REASONABLE and RATIONAL. With the current stock price so low, a controlling interest can be purchased at a reasonable price and other assets like TopProducer can be spun off to repay (partially) the investment. This is a strategy that makes SENSE.
Until NAR SERIOUSLY takes up this issue and hears our concerns, we vow to raise awareness, talk to the press, let our clients know what you are up to, and most importantly, we will NOT continue to pay higher and higher fees to cover Move, Inc.s inefficiencies and largess.
We do not do this out of spite. We do this to protect OUR good name and our industry. It only makes sense with Move, Inc’s stock price this low to take these actions. We call on you to address these concerns completely, totally, and immediately.
After you have added your name to this petition an e-mail will be sent to the given address to confirm your signature. Please make sure that your e-mail address is correct or you will not receive this e-mail and your name will not be counted.

LAist’s Tear It Down is currently 1-0, with last year’s desperate cry to tear down 8500 Melrose Avenue (the pink and black checkered monster) receiving cries of agreement and some nice legitimate placement in the Los Angeles Times for the cause. We were overjoyed to know that we weren’t alone in voicing our opinion that, yes, there are some buildings and landmarks around town that really, positively must be demolished.
This week is no different. LAist would like to stick their digital neck out into the Los Angeles community and cry for the ultimate tear down ever — the Hollywood sign.
Let’s start with what we know: The Hollywood sign stands four stories high, stands firmly in the Hollywood Hills, and was erected in 1923 with the extended letters L-A-N-D. The landmark was not built as an homage to a city, or as a love letter to the motion picture industry or as a cool place to “park.” The 1923 HOLLYWOODLAND sign was built for one reason and one reason only: to motivate real estate sales by a group of real estate developers.
When the 1929 stock market crash came along and Hollywoodland’s real estate development crashed as well, the developers abandoned their marketing billboard. And without anyone around to maintain it, it fell apart until 1949 when the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce stepped in and offered to remove the last four letters and repair the rest.
Sure, the Hollywood sign now has a sense of history, but if local lawmakers decided to leave up a GAP ad with Tobey Maguire on a building for sixty years, or if that Angelyne billboard was allowed to stay up and become historical (oh wait, it has) — people would probably be visiting LA and taking pictures of themselves in front of the “historical Tobey ad.” “I’m going to LA to see the Jenna Jameson billboard,” people would say. And that would be very very very sad.
So…why treat the Hollywood sign with any more respect than every other billboard around town? Really, that’s all it is — a really old billboard that has happened to accidentally become a landmark.
Call us commie-bastards or call us something else that you’re unable to submit with your e-mail address and web page URL — but we’re not 100% convinced that keeping the Hollywood sign is the way to go. Does it really mean that much to all of us to keep it up? Wouldn’t you rather have your tax dollars go to repairing the potholes in the roads or fixing Hollywood Boulevard or paying for more police or to (finally) splinter off the Los Angeles public school system? Doesn’t it just make perfect sense to get rid of the rest of those letters and call it a day?
It’s just a billboard, people. An eighty-two year old sales tool.
