Because they knew they could buy way more house then they

could afford, and when they got in over their head, they can

look to the government to bail them out and save the day!
References :
From the article and States mentioned, it would seem to be the volume of properties bought and sold, along with population density.
References :
No idea. But a single connection between two traits isn't enough to rule out others. Hastily drawn conclusion based of facts found when trying to prove one's point. Be it true or not, your dogmatism is showing.
References :
Basically, its due to GREED..people who buy overpriced realestate with ARM's. Then when they get sick, laid off, one of the wageearners is not enough to keep their heads above water. This can happen to blue or red, libs or neos, whatever. Why does the mortgage industry whine when THEY are the ones who foolishly granted the risky creditor a loan in the first place.? We're back to my original premise: its due to GREED!
References :
Been there, done that

Cali isn't a state. It is a universe all its own. I lived there for 1.5 years. They deserve to have the worst of it with mortgages due to the ridiculous prices that people were foolish enough to pay.

Had Cali residents simply refused to buy those tiny homes for those ridiculous prices, they would not be in the situation they are in now.

MI is suffering due to Auto Plant layoffs.

NY is just as ridiculous as Cali when it comes to price per square foot.

Cali was big on:
- Interest only loans
- 50 year mortgages
- Giving away a motorcycle or vacation with a home purchase

I tried to tell those nuts to just say no. A Repub friend of mine in Visalia tried to convince me to buy in Cali in 2005. I chose to rent a 2 bedroom condo for $895 per month which was a bargain as I always stay in upscale neighborhoods with many nearby conveniences. Any home I'd consider was $450 - $600k at 1.2% of purchase price prop tax per year. This was in Fresno from spring 2005 - fall 2006
References :
Ohio and Florida are swing states. The last time this happened, Indiana was right up there. Indiana is red. Parts of Ohio has very high unemployment and a shaky economy. I don't know how Florida's economy is. Republicans and Democrats are susceptible to the effects of changes in economic conditions.
References :
One of the things not covered on those scales is the military base closings. High taxes and relocation of military without some one moving in either by rent or to buy, will leave the military member with only one answer which is to allow foreclosure.
