You really hit the mark on the history of Hawthorne. I grew up on 133rd St. near Shoup where the L.A. county water tower was, another landmark gone forever. Growing up in Hawthorne in the late 50’s & early 60’s was a great time.
      Thanks for the memories!

I grew up in Hawhorne in the 50-60’s also. My father founded and coached the Hawthorne Swim Team. I went down a couple of years ago for his Memorial, visited all my old stomping grounds, saw my old home (that my father built with his own two hands) and has gone virtually unchanged. Other than the huge Chain Linked fence surrounding the HS, and much more development, I found many of my old stomping grounds stil there. I never once felt. I DO celebrate diversity.

I loved this video because it too, brought back many wonderful memories. I lived there from 4-18 (1956-1970), until I married. My father was the founder and coach of the Hawthorne Swim Team for 25+ years. It was a good life there and a wonderful place to grown up. I visited my old home (my father built) on Truro Avenue off Broadway, when I went down for my his Memorial and the home has remained virtually unchanged. It was still a nice neighborhood, I’d live there.

      I lived in Hawhorne …
I lived in Hawhorne from 4-18 (1956-1970). It was a fairly safe city back then but we did have a young girl raped and murdered, found in the hedges lining the Truro Avenue side of Eucalyptus Elementary (grades K-3 section). We lived 4 houses down from there. My stepfather chased off a peeping tom we saw (over our brick fence) watching our neighbor shower mid-day. So even then Hawthorne wasn’t THAT safe.
