You really hit the … You really hit the mark on the history of Hawthorne. I grew up on 133rd St. near Shoup where the L.A. county water tower was, another landmark gone forever. Growing up in Hawthorne in the late 50’s & early 60’s was a great time.
Thanks for the memories!
yeah it was a … yeah it was a wonderful place until all the blacks and mexican im hispanic and im sad to say that what ever city latinos and blacks take over they mess it all up
I grew up in … I grew up in Hawhorne in the 50-60’s also. My father founded and coached the Hawthorne Swim Team. I went down a couple of years ago for his Memorial, visited all my old stomping grounds, saw my old home (that my father built with his own two hands) and has gone virtually unchanged. Other than the huge Chain Linked fence surrounding the HS, and much more development, I found many of my old stomping grounds stil there. I never once felt. I DO celebrate diversity.
I loved this video … I loved this video because it too, brought back many wonderful memories. I lived there from 4-18 (1956-1970), until I married. My father was the founder and coach of the Hawthorne Swim Team for 25+ years. It was a good life there and a wonderful place to grown up. I visited my old home (my father built) on Truro Avenue off Broadway, when I went down for my his Memorial and the home has remained virtually unchanged. It was still a nice neighborhood, I’d live there.
I lived in Hawhorne … I lived in Hawhorne from 4-18 (1956-1970). It was a fairly safe city back then but we did have a young girl raped and murdered, found in the hedges lining the Truro Avenue side of Eucalyptus Elementary (grades K-3 section). We lived 4 houses down from there. My stepfather chased off a peeping tom we saw (over our brick fence) watching our neighbor shower mid-day. So even then Hawthorne wasn’t THAT safe.
born and raised in … born and raised in hawthorne…went to Zela Davis, Williams, Yukon, and graduated from Leuzinger in 77. My Dad was also born and raised there and graduated from LHS in 47. He grew up at 120th and York
I was born in … I was born in Hawthorne and still live here. Things have changed for sure….it’s so sad to see what has happened to it. My dad grew up here also….we go way back here. There are lot’s of great memories for my family. Thanks for the memories!
I grew up in … I grew up in Inglewood in the 50’s-60’s. Used to love going down Hawthorne Blvd, it was a safe, wholesome place. Now it looks like part of Mexico, crap all over, broken down buildings, etc. Celebrate diversity.
That is/was one of … That is/was one of the most famous cruising streets in the worldHawthorne Boulevard in Hawthorne. Manchester was a few miles away from the spot this picture was taken and is in Inglewood.
