As a realtor, should I charge a fee to clients asking me to show them other realtors rental listings?

Since the co-op commissions are so little, it’s hardly worth the time, effort and overhead to spend possibly a day or two and the client doesn’t make an offer on anything. I would appreciate any comments by realtors as to how they handle their clients asking to show them rental properties.

It is an excellent idea. Most people will agree to this since they know that they are taking your time. And they know that few agents will take the time to show them a wide selection of rentals. All the agents will only show them one house and ask for a decision. You need to make this small enuf so they can pay you in cash when they get in the car. But large enuf so it will make you smile if they don’t end up renting thru you ( most do not ).

The only problem is that you must disclose to them that you are also getting paid by the landlord. You could offer to refund their payment if they rent a house thru you.

Suck it up and provide some service. If you don’t want to show them a rental (and then help them buy a place 6-12 months down the track) then there are lots of agents out there that will.

Look at it this way: do you have another client that could occupy that time? Rentals are short, simple, and easy.

you will never get a client to agree to a fee like that.

i would be hesitant to show rental properties. there is so little money in that.

Show them rentals that happen to be near some of your listings.
